Headline:

Fog clearing, then lengthy sunny spells, cloudier further east.

Today:

A cold start with early mist and fog patches clearing slowly through this morning. Thereafter generally dry with some sunshine in places. Cloudier at times and turning breezier. Maximum temperature 10 °C.

Tonight:

Clear spells for some at first, but generally turning cloudy overnight and becoming rather windy in places, especially in the west. Showery rain in Cornwall later. A much milder night. Minimum temperature 4 °C.

Sunday:

Generally much cloudier than on Saturday, with rain at times in Cornwall and Devon. Perhaps turning sunnier in Wiltshire and Gloucestershire and occasional bright spells elsewhere. Breezy in places. Maximum temperature 9 °C.

Outlook for Monday to Wednesday:

Generally cloudy and breezy on Monday and Tuesday with a little rain possible, mainly in the west. Heavier rain on Tuesday night, clearing to a fine day on Wednesday.

It is likely to be rather more settled across the UK in this period, especially at first. High pressure will sit close to, or over the UK, and will most likely drift away slowly eastwards with time. Consequently, southern and eastern areas are likely to see the driest conditions, with lightest winds, which could lead to overnight frost and fog with temperatures a little below normal. Further north and west, there is a risk of incursions of Atlantic air and fontal systems at times, which would bring some rain here, but with milder temperatures. There is a very low chance that if the high orientates in such a way that a more easterly (rather than southerly/southeasterly) flow develops, a spell of much colder conditions could develop across the UK.

There are signs that there may be somewhat of a northwest-southeast split to the UK's weather through this period. The north or northwest is likely to bear the brunt of wet and windy spells, whilst towards the south or southeast, it may be drier and more settled. Some rain is still likely at times here though, as are brief drier spells further north. Temperatures will probably be close to average overall, but some milder spells are likely, especially in the north. Brief colder spells are likely in between weather systems though, and the south is likely to be at greatest risk of seeing some overnight frost and fog.
