Early fog clearing to leave bright spells during the morning. Cloud building during the afternoon but staying mostly dry for now. Warm for the time of year but with a freshening breeze. Maximum temperature 20 °C.

Tonight:

Turning widely wet this evening as rain sweeps across the region, heavy at times, accompanied by gusty winds. Becoming drier overnight as winds ease, with clear spells by dawn. Mild. Minimum temperature 11 °C.

Friday:

A similar start to Thursday, with a bright morning giving way to increasingly grey skies before rain arrives later in the day. Strengthening winds especially in the southwest. Feeling mild. Maximum temperature 18 °C.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

Feeling cooler on Saturday with a brisk northwesterly wind, localised gales and showers. Largely dry on Sunday and Monday with sunny spells and winds easing slightly.

To start the period the UK will be in a broadly westerly pattern allowing weak frontal systems to spread in from the Atlantic. Within this we are likely to see further spells of rain or drizzle and strong winds at times, these more likely affecting northern and western areas, but all parts of the UK could see some rain from time to time. Through next week, there is a signal, albeit a weak one, for pressure to build in the vicinity of the UK, with a better chance of more areas seeing some longer drier interludes. On the whole temperatures look to be fairly close to average, though some chilly nights are to be expected at times.

The latter half of October will probably see a transition to more widely unsettled conditions once more. Whether this takes the form of successive depressions moving in from the Atlantic or a rather slower evolving weather pattern remains to be seen, but there is a greater chance of more places seeing more frequent spells of rain or showers and possibly strong winds. Temperatures probably remaining close to average overall, but with a reduced incidence of chilly nights compared to earlier in the month.
