Tonight:

Largely clear skies at first, before clouding over from the west through the night. A frost likely across Kent and Sussex, elsewhere a touch milder under increasing cloud. Light winds. Minimum temperature -3 °C.

Monday:

A cloudy day on Monday with some patchy light rain possible in places. Brighter conditions spreading into western areas through the late afternoon. Winds starting to pick up overnight. Maximum temperature 9 °C.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

Windy and cloudy Tuesday, rain later. Dry and bright Wednesday and Thursday with light winds. Overnight frosts becoming widespread by Thursday. Temperatures around average, becoming colder later in the week.

It is likely to be rather more settled across the UK in this period, especially at first. High pressure will sit close to, or over the UK, and will most likely drift away slowly eastwards with time. Consequently, southern and eastern areas are likely to see the driest conditions, with lightest winds, which could lead to overnight frost and fog with temperatures a little below normal. Further north and west, there is a risk of incursions of Atlantic air and fontal systems at times, which would bring some rain here, but with milder temperatures. There is a very low chance that if the high orientates in such a way that a more easterly (rather than southerly/southeasterly) flow develops, a spell of much colder conditions could develop across the UK.

It is most likely that high pressure will dominate at first in some form or another, but there is a weak signal for a more unsettled spell in the second half of the month, before signals become indistinguishable from climatology by the start of March. Temperatures may be below average at first, with overnight frosts, but could return to near average or even rise a little above average later. Rainfall amounts, especially in the south and east are likely to be below average at first, but may return to near-normal values later in the month.
