Headline:

A mixed few days with bright spells and showers.

Today:

A few heavy showers across the southwest of Cornwall. Otherwise a mostly dry albeit cloudy day with a few showers around, these mainly in the west. Best of the sunshine confined to the east of the region. Maximum temperature 15 °C.

Tonight:

Showers easing overnight, leaving the region dry with patchy cloud and some clear spells. Most places staying above freezing with the risk of some grass frost. Minimum temperature 3 °C.

Friday:

A dry start to the day with variable cloud. Showers developing into the afternoon which can be slow moving and heavy. Dry in the south and warmer than recent days. Maximum temperature 17 °C.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

A mixed weekend with showers in places, but bright or sunny spells not far away. More showers in the southwest on Monday but temperatures will drop.

Changeable and at times rather unsettled conditions look to dominate through the middle part of May, with low pressure often close by. This means periods of rain or showers, some of which could be heavy, for many places, though some drier interludes are also expected. For the most part, temperatures are likely to be close to or perhaps a little below normal, though depending on the position of low pressure relative to the UK, there is the chance of brief warmer mroe humid interludes extending north from the near continent. With this would be the chance of some thunderstorms, these most likely affecting parts of England and Wales.

Low pressure systems are likely to still be close by to the UK at the start of this period. This means showers or longer spells of rain are likely at times, these heavy in places, with the wettest conditions probably towards the northwest by this stage. There will, however, probably be some dry and warm interludes, these more likely towards the south, although temperatures are likely to be close to normal overall. Later in the period, more settled and drier conditions may develop, as high pressure establishes itself over or to the west of the UK, with temperatures perhaps rising a little above normal, especially in the west. Should this happen, eastern parts may be on the cool side with a predominant flow off the North Sea.
