UK May and spring temperature record provisionally broken for second day in a row

Headline:

Warm overnight, hot and mostly sunny on Wednesday, isolated thunderstorms.

This Evening and Tonight:

A very warm evening and staying sunny for most. Isolated thunderstorms are possible, most likely in eastern counties, potentially bringing large hail and frequent lightning but most places will stay dry. Remaining rather warm overnight with often clear skies. Minimum temperature 15 °C.

Wednesday:

Another largely sunny and hot day, but possibly turning murky in the Isles of Scilly, with low cloud reaching west Cornwall by the evening. Freshening easterly winds, gusty in places. Maximum temperature 32 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Staying largely dry with some sunshine but the odd shower is possible at times. Very warm initially but turning somewhat cooler by the weekend. Coastal mist and low cloud possible.

UK long range weather forecast

A more changeable period than we have seen of late, as Atlantic weather systems move in from the west to bring a mixture of drier spells and some showers, or longer spells of rain at times. The rain will likely be heaviest in parts of the west and northwest, with the best of the drier conditions more likely towards the south and east. Temperatures will be near-normal overall, with the warmest spots most likely across eastern areas. It will also be breezy at times, most especially across northwestern areas.

Probably changeable or unsettled at first with Atlantic frontal systems bringing showers or longer spells of rain at times. From mid-month, high pressure may begin to become more dominant with conditions becoming dry and more settled, although some showery interludes are still possible. Temperatures are expected to be near normal at first, but probably rising above average later.
