Today:

Dry but rather cloudy at first, with winds gradually strengthening through the morning. The cloud will eventually thicken, bringing outbreaks of rain in the afternoon though many will stay dry, particularly in the east. Maximum temperature 23 °C.

Tonight:

Any remaining rain will soon clear, leaving a dry and mostly clear night with winds gradually easing. It will turn chilly, with mist and grass frost likely in rural areas. Minimum temperature 4 °C.

Monday:

Any fog will soon clear to leave a fine morning with light winds and long sunny periods. Some heavy rain may develop from the south during the afternoon though. Maximum temperature 20 °C.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

Dry and brightening on Tuesday, turning very warm by afternoon and staying unusually mild overnight. Heavy rain followed by the odd shower on Wednesday. Dry with sunny spells on Thursday.

Higher pressure and more settled conditions look likely to build across across the UK, however it remains finely balanced whether this will become focused across the north or south. Lower pressure and interludes of more changeable weather are likely at times, but again, there are mixed signals regarding where this is more likely. However, an overall drier period than average is expected, with shorter periods of rain or showers. Winds are also likely to be lighter than average overall, but shorter periods of strong winds remain likely at this time of year, particularly across the northwest. Temperatures are likely to remain warmer than average.

Initially, high pressure and more settled conditions are likely to continue, albeit with interruptions of occasional rain and stronger winds. Towards and beyond mid-October, it may turn more widely unsettled with a greater chance of wet and windy conditions at times. Temperatures will likely be above average for the period as a whole.
