Today:

Sunny, but cold and widely frosty this morning. Some patchy cloud developing through the afternoon, but staying dry with still plenty of sunshine around. Despite the sunshine, however, it will feel very cold with a strengthening breeze during the day. Maximum temperature 2 °C.

Tonight:

A dry and mostly clear night with another widespread and locally hard frost developing. Winds falling light for many areas. Minimum temperature -4 °C.

Sunday:

Largely sunny again, not as breezy as Saturday but still feeling very cold. Then some uncertainty by the evening and overnight with a chance for some snowfall. Maximum temperature 2 °C.

Outlook for Monday to Wednesday:

Dry and sunny Monday. More changeable Tuesday and Wednesday with a chance of rain or snow. Very cold and rather breezy initially, less so later.

Rather changeable, as Atlantic frontal systems attempt to cross the UK from the west to bring occasional outbreaks of rain, but preceded by snow in some areas, more especially central, northern and eastern parts of the UK, perhaps giving some significant snow accumulations in places, particularly on northern hills. These low pressure systems, whilst could bring some periods of strong winds, will be interspersed with quieter, drier interludes under transient ridges of high pressure with the potential for frost, and wintry showers along coasts exposed to northerly winds. A continuation of this general pattern is favoured into the following week, although perhaps with temperatures trending closer to average such that the frequency of wintry hazards, especially in the south, may reduce slightly.

The outlook through the second half of January is very uncertain, with no strong indication for any particular weather pattern to dominate. As such, conditions are most likely to be changeable. Spells of wet, windy and mild weather are possible at times, along with colder, drier interludes with overnight frost and fog. Snow and ice remain possible, especially in central and northern parts of the UK, but the chance of these is lower than earlier in the month.
