A chilly and rather cloudy day, with a few scattered showers in places, these perhaps wintry over the hills. Light winds for most, but widespread low cloud brings persistent hill fog across the higher ground. Maximum temperature 6 °C.

Tonight:

Patchy drizzle persists through this evening beneath the thickest cloud, but most places turning dry overnight. Light winds and rather chilly, but a frost-free night for most. Minimum temperature 2 °C.

Monday:

Widely cloudy with a few spots of rain or sleet arriving from the southeast, with patchy hill fog. Some dry intervals too but feeling rather chilly with brisk easterly winds. Maximum temperature 5 °C.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

Remaining cold this week and cloudy with a few spots of rain or sleet at first but turning gradually drier each day. Some chilly and frosty nights to come.

East or southeasterly winds are likely at the start of this period. This maintaining below average temperatures and often cloudy conditions. There is a chance of colder conditions developing which would see an increase in wintry showers, especially in eastern and northeastern parts of the country. Meanwhile, Atlantic frontal zones, bringing milder conditions and rain, will attempt to move in from the west or southwest. Early in this period these look likely to have limited influence over the UK though should they push further northeastwards this would increase the chance of snow for some areas. The balance between colder easterly winds and milder, wetter southwesterly winds remains unclear during mid-February though towards the end of this period, less cold conditions become more likely.

An unsettled theme will probably have become established by this time, with weather systems moving close to or across the UK from the Atlantic. This will mean bands of rain and perhaps periods of strong winds spreading in from the west, interspersed with some drier and brighter interludes. Temperatures are most likely to be close to average overall. Whilst this is the most likely outcome, there is still a chance of colder conditions continuing for a time at the start of this period.
