Cloud increasing from the northwest this morning bringing patchy rain, especially around the middle of the day. Becoming mainly dry and much brighter, with plenty of sunny spells into the afternoon. Remaining chillier than of later, even in the sunshine. Maximum temperature 14 °C.

Tonight:

A dry start to the evening with clear spells. Showers returning through the night which could become heavy at times during the early morning. Most places staying frost free. Minimum temperature 2 °C.

Wednesday:

A day of sunshine and blustery showers, some of the showers could again be heavy with the added risk of hail in places. Remaining chilly, with temperatures below average. Maximum temperature 13 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Staying mixed to end the week with further sunshine and showers likely. Drier, with lighter winds to start the weekend though. Temperatures staying below average for the time of year.

Changeable and at times rather unsettled conditions look to dominate at first, with low pressure often close by. This means periods of rain or showers, some of which could be heavy, for many places, though some drier interludes are also expected. As this period progresses, high pressure is likely to begin to build from the south bringing more in the way of settled weather. Temperatures likely cooler than average to begin, but tending to recover as the period progresses, perhaps becoming rather warm by the end of the period, especially in the south.

Patterns which bring more settled weather are more likely to dominate towards the end of May. Whilst further rain and showers are possible at times, there is likely to be longer spells of fine and dry weather. Temperatures are most likely to recover close to average, perhaps becoming warm at times. Into June, more mixed conditions are likely with spells of rain and showers, but also some drier weather at times.
