A dry and often bright day on Tuesday with variable amounts of cloud and occasional periods of hazy sunshine. Breezy easterly winds at times but a bit milder. Maximum temperature 6 °C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Showery rain arriving later on Wednesday and feeling a bit milder. Much milder to end the week but unsettled and windy with rain or showers, perhaps heavy at times.

Frontal systems likely to continue spreading across the UK from the Atlantic during this period. These systems will bring spells of rain to many parts of the UK. The heaviest and most prolonged rainfall is expected to be in west and north-western areas, particularly over higher ground, with rainfall totals much lower in the east and southeast. Strong winds are also likely to develop at times, especially along coasts where gales or severe gales are possible. Between weather systems, some drier and more settled interludes are expected, these bringing lighter winds and sunny spells, perhaps accompanied by a few showers. Temperatures are likely be above average, especially early in this period when it will be very mild.

Early March is likely to continue to see unsettled weather, with Atlantic frontal systems spreading across the UK from the west. These will bring spells of rain and strong winds at times, interspersed by some drier, brighter periods between systems. Into the middle of the month, drier, more settled conditions may become more prevalent, especially in the south. Temperatures are most likely to be above average.
