Provisional spring daily temperature record as heatwave continues

A new UK daily temperature record for spring and May has been provisionally broken, with 34.8°C reached at Kew Gardens today.

Today:

A dry and widely sunny day today across the region, with perhaps some cloud bubbling up later in the day. Another hot day with temperatures way above average for the time of year. Maximum temperature 33 °C.

Tonight:

A fine and warm evening for many, although the odd thunderstorm may develop across the south. Remaining warm overnight with perhaps some cloud moving into eastern areas. Minimum temperature 12 °C.

Wednesday:

Another dry and fine day with plenty of sunshine. Not as hot as recent days but still feeling very warm, especially in the sunshine. Maximum temperature 26 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Staying largely dry and settled, although a few showers may develop from time to time. Very warm initially but it will begin to cool a little by the weekend.

The south of the UK is expected to be mainly fine and dry for the start of this period, with temperatures above normal. It will be cloudier in the north with some rain at times, this heavy in places. Moving further into the period, conditions will likely become unsettled across the UK as a whole. Atlantic weather systems will move in from the west bringing showers or longer spells of rain at times. The rain will likely be heaviest in parts of the west and northwest. Temperatures will probably be near normal overall.
