Today:

Any early light rain across the south will clear to leave a dry and bright morning across the region. Cloud will tend to increase throughout the afternoon with a band of rain and strengthening winds arriving from the northwest later. Maximum temperature 20 °C.

Tonight:

A wet evening, with the rain heavy and persistent for a time. Turning drier overnight with some clear spells developing and winds also easing. Minimum temperature 11 °C.

Tuesday:

A day of sunshine and showers, with the showers turning heavy and thundery in places. Winds also freshening once again helping to give a rather cool feel to the day. Maximum temperature 18 °C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Drier and brighter on Wednesday with spells of sunshine. Another band of rain then moves in for Thursday, before drier and brighter weather returns on Friday. Temperatures likely around average.

Changeable initially, with some dry interludes and relatively cool nights, interspersed with occasional spells of rain and showers arriving from the west, perhaps accompanied by some strong winds at times too. A trend toward some longer dry interludes between systems as we head toward mid-September, but at this stage a return of prolonged dry, settled weather looks unlikely. Temperatures will probably be close to average overall, though still with some relatively cool nights at times.

High pressure initially close to the UK, with a continuation of more settled conditions at times, may eventually start to weaken its influence on the weather towards the end of September. As a result, it may become more changeable with a greater chance of rain or showers in places, and perhaps some strong winds at times too. Temperatures will likely be a little above average overall, with relatively cool nights possible at first tending to reduce in frequency later in the period.
