A few showers are possible, these mostly through the morning. Otherwise, most places will have a dry day with sunny spells. A little breezy in coastal regions but feeling warm in the sunshine. Maximum temperature 18 °C.

Tonight:

Mainly dry this evening with clear periods. Bands of showers or longer spells of rain will arrive from the west by dawn. Turning windier and staying relatively mild. Minimum temperature 11 °C.

Friday:

A rather windy day with brisk southerly winds and periods of rain, heavy at times, erratically edging southwards. Southern parts of the region may remain largely dry until the evening. Maximum temperature 18 °C.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

Overnight rain clearing the south then bright with sunny spells on Saturday with lighter winds. Fine more most on Sunday then cloudier on Monday with patchy rain. Turning windier again.

The southern UK will likely be under the influence of high pressure for the first few days of this period. This means plenty of dry weather to be had here, albeit with some chilly nights and overnight and morning fog in places. In the north, a rather more changeable pattern will continue, with occasional rain and windy conditions at times. Broadly changeable weather patterns look to continue through mid-month, with ridges of high pressure extending from the southwest, interspersed by Atlantic frontal systems. These could be associated with quite deep and fast-moving depressions, bringing the potential for windy weather more widely, again most likely in the north. Temperatures probably near or slightly above normal overall, with day to day variations.

The second half of October will probably maintain a changeable pattern overall with showers or longer spells of rain often moving in from the Atlantic. This means the wettest and at times windiest weather is more likely in the west and northwest, and relatively drier conditions more likely towards the south and east. With a westerly type considered most likely, this would support temperatures remaining close to or a little above average overall. However, there is a chance that more slowly evolving weather patterns develop, which could either lead to longer drier spells more widely or rainfall accumulating in climatologically drier areas.
