After a cool start to the day, Friday will bring plenty of dry weather with sunny spells and the odd shower towards the north and west. Winds mainly light and feeling pleasant in the sunshine. Maximum temperature 20 °C.

Tonight:

Isolated showers will persist overnight, mainly towards the northwest. Remaining dry for most with clear spells, feeling fresh for all. Minimum temperature 8 °C.

Saturday:

Light to moderate northwesterly winds will bring an isolated shower at times. Otherwise, dry with sunny spells and pleasantly warm. Maximum temperature 21 °C.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

Mostly dry with sunny spells on Sunday. Breezier with some rain likely on Monday and Tuesday, turning a little warmer too.

A generally rather changeable period looks likely, with many places likely to see some much needed rain or showers at times but also some more sunshine. Initially, some heavy rain looks likely across the northeast, with some showers elsewhere. After a drier, brighter few days, further unsettled conditions may develop for a while, these perhaps more likely towards more southern parts of the UK. Thereafter, further spells of dry, warm, sunny weather and cooler, wetter and breezier weather look likely as we head towards mid-August. Temperatures will likely be a little above average overall, and there is the potential for some very warm or hot spells, especially in the south, although perhaps not the heat we have seen in recent weeks.

Dry and settled conditions look likely to dominate much of this period with high pressure patterns tending to affect the UK. This may be interrupted at times by Atlantic frontal systems, especially in the north, or thunderstorms in the south. However, overall, rainfall amounts will likely be below normal. Temperatures will probably be above normal and some spells of hot weather and heatwaves are possible, especially in the south.
