Today:

A grey and rather murky start for some, with fog possible in places and a little drizzle over the hills. Brightening up for many by the afternoon with some sunshine. Feeling mild in the sunshine. Maximum temperature 10 °C.

Tonight:

Clear periods at first, but mist and fog patches developing this evening and more especially after midnight. Colder than last night with some frost possible where skies remain clear. Minimum temperature -2 °C.

Thursday:

A cold start with a frost and patchy freezing fog in places. Thereafter a dry day with some sunshine for many. Feeling mild in any afternoon sunshine with light winds. Maximum temperature 8 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Mainly dry and cloudy with the odd brighter interval. Light winds for most but breezier in the west with perhaps some rain by Sunday. Feeling chilly with overnight frosts possible.

This period is expected to see a transition, possibly lasting over several days, between the settled, dry, and often dull conditions expected over the next few days, to something more unsettled. Sunday itself is likely to be rather cloudy and cool, with outbreaks of rain in the west drifting slowly eastwards. The start of the following week will most likely see more settled conditions with light winds becoming re-established, with a chance of rain in both the far north and the far south, and a smaller chance that the rain could become more widespread. Later in the week, periods of much wetter and windier weather will most likely become more prevalent, from northwest to southeast, alternatively there is a very small chance of colder, drier, but perhaps wintry, easterly winds.

A dominant flow from the Atlantic looks likely through this period, resulting in an unsettled, milder and windier than average period. This is likely to result in areas of rain and periods of stronger winds affecting most if not all parts of the UK at times, though with the wettest and windiest weather probably occurring towards the north and west. However, the potential for brief colder spells with associated frost, ice and snow remains, following any deep lows crossing the region.
