Headline:

Drier, brighter and feeling a little less chilly.

Today:

After a chilly start, Friday will be mostly dry with some bright or sunny spells. A few, mostly light, showers are possible through the afternoon. With winds steadily easing it will feel a little less chilly too. Maximum temperature 12 °C.

Tonight:

The odd light coastal shower is possible overnight. Otherwise, dry with clear spells and light winds. This will allow temperatures to fall away and a patchy frost to form. Minimum temperature 6 °C.

Saturday:

A dry, bright and chilly start. Remaining mostly dry with cloud increasing from the west. Some light rain is possible by evening. Maximum temperature 13 °C.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

Showery rain will move east on Sunday. Cloudy on Monday with some rain later. Turning rather wet and windy on Tuesday. Temperatures slowly increasing near to average.

Changeable conditions look to dominate at first, with low pressure often close by. This means periods of rain or showers, some of which could be heavy and more focussed across northwestern areas. Drier interludes are also expected, most especially across southeastern UK. As this period progresses, high pressure is likely to begin to build from the south bringing more settled weather, although with occasional showers. Temperatures near-normal to begin, but tending to rise as the period progresses, perhaps becoming rather warm by the end of the period, especially in the south. Winds will be stronger during the first part of the period, generally from a southwesterly direction, before becoming lighter in line with the more settled conditions.

Whilst further rain and showers are possible at times, there is also likely to be spells of fine and dry weather. Patterns which bring more settled weather are more likely to dominate towards the end of May across southern areas with more unsettled spells of weather likely to be focused further north. Into June, more mixed conditions are likely with spells of rain and showers, but also some drier weather at times. Temperatures are most likely to be near or slightly above average overall, with some warm weather possible at times.
