This Evening and Tonight:

Plenty of evening sunshine but cloud spreading west across the country by late evening. Some light drizzle around eastern coasts too. A clear spells for much of Galloway. Minimum temperature 12 °C.

Tuesday:

An overcast and dull start for most but cloud breaking up through the morning. Remaining cloudy with drizzle possible in the east, dry with sunny intervals in the west. Maximum temperature 20 °C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

A little fresher towards the end of the week with gentle northerly winds, plenty of dry and bright weather.

High pressure is likely to be the dominant feature at first, bringing widely fine and dry weather whilst an on-shore flow leads to rather cool conditions in parts of the north east. Whilst this is happening a deep area of low pressure is likely to develop in the North Atlantic. This is linked to Hurricane Erin, which is expected to start to bring a change in weather to the UK, though the timing of this is uncertain. From early to mid-week, high pressure may become increasingly eroded from the west as low pressure and frontal systems start to move in from the Atlantic, leading to more changeable conditions with spells of rain through the remainder of the week. Temperatures likely warm or very warm to start before trending towards average.

Confidence in the details through this period is low. However, low pressure and therefore unsettled or changeable weather looks more likely. There will be the potential for periods of stronger winds at times as well. Whether this takes the form of further low pressure systems running in from the Atlantic, or a more slowly evolving weather pattern with the potential for heavy showers is less clear. Temperatures are likely to be near to, or slightly above average overall.
