Today:

Rather cold with a mix of sunny spells and frequent showers which will be heavy at times with a risk of hail and thunder. Breezy near western coasts with occasionally strong northwesterly winds, winds lighter in east. Maximum temperature 13 °C.

Tonight:

Some late sunny spells, then clear spells, with showers easing and becoming increasingly confined to coastal parts. Touch of frost possible in sheltered spots, but breezy near west coast. Minimum temperature 2 °C.

Thursday:

Mainly dry start with sunny spells but occasionally heavy showers developing widely through the morning, before easing in the west later. Northerly winds, occasionally strong near coasts. Maximum temperature 14 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Mainly dry with sunny spells through Friday and Saturday, risk of overnight frosts. Outbreaks of rain in west Sunday morning edge east before clearing from west in afternoon.

Changeable and at times rather unsettled conditions look to dominate at first, with low pressure often close by. This means periods of rain or showers, some of which could be heavy, for many places, though some drier interludes are also expected. As this period progresses, high pressure is likely to begin to build from the south bringing more in the way of settled weather. Temperatures likely cooler than average to begin, but tending to recover as the period progresses, perhaps becoming rather warm by the end of the period, especially in the south.

Patterns which bring more settled weather are more likely to dominate towards the end of May. Whilst further rain and showers are possible at times, there is likely to be longer spells of fine and dry weather. Into June, more mixed conditions are likely with spells of rain and showers, but also some drier weather at times. Temperatures are most likely to be near or slightly above average overall, with some warm weather possible at times.
