Monday:

A few showers across the southwest, but dry with some brightness in the east. Rain and snow will spread into Lothian and Borders in the evening. Maximum temperature 7 °C.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

Early wintry showers in the east on Tuesday otherwise dry and bright. Dry and cold on Wednesday and Thursday with overnight frost.

Showers or longer spells of rain, as well as occasional strong winds, are most likely at first as Atlantic low pressure systems dominate in the vicinity of the UK. Some heavy rain is likely in places, with some snow probable at times, mainly on high ground in the north. Temperatures varying from around, or a little above, average especially in the south to cold at times, mainly in the north. Although unsettled weather is likely to dominate at first, there will be some drier interludes between weather systems. These drier interludes will become increasingly likely and perhaps more prolonged through the period.

Confidence in the dominant weather patterns during this period is low. There are signals for both periods of unsettled conditions, bringing a risk of heavy rain and possibly strong winds, and periods of drier, more settled weather, which may mean slightly colder conditions. The more settled pattern is looking slightly more probable early in this period, with more unsettled conditions currently looking slightly more likely towards the end.
