Early showers clearing then largely dry with sunny spells.

Today:

A mostly cloudy start with a few showers around. These will soon clear to leave a dry morning with sunny spells developing. Cloud increasing in the afternoon to bring the odd light shower but most places staying dry. Maximum temperature 15 °C.

Tonight:

A largely dry evening with some late brightness. Mainly dry with clear spells overnight but some showers will affect East Lothian and the Borders later. Minimum temperature 5 °C.

Tuesday:

A mostly dry and sunny morning in the west. Cloudier with showers over the Borders and the east and some of these showers will spread into the west during afternoon. Maximum temperature 13 °C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

A touch of frost early Wednesday then mainly dry and bright, but showers arriving later. Showers or longer spells of rain on Thursday and Friday.

There is a lot of uncertainty in the evolution through this period, more so than normal, but overall it would appear that a rather unsettled theme is most likely. Most places are therefore likely to see some rain or showers at times, but also some drier, brighter weather. The emphasis on wetter conditions may be more towards the south at first, with low pressure perhaps more likely towards the south of the UK, before shifting further north later in the period as low pressure becomes more likely to set up to the north of the UK. Temperatures are likely to be near normal in the south throughout but on the cool side in the north at first before recovering to around normal later.

Low pressure systems are likely to dominate across the UK at the start of this period. This means showers or longer spells of rain are likely at times, heavy in places, with the wettest conditions probably towards the northwest. There will, however, probably be some dry and warm interludes, these more likely towards the south, although temperatures are likely to be close to normal overall. Later in the period, more settled and drier conditions may develop, as high pressure potentially establishes itself to the north or west of the UK, with temperatures perhaps rising a little above normal, especially in the west or northwest. Should this happen, eastern parts may be on the cool side with a predominant flow off the North Sea.
