Today:

A chilly start, with widespread cloud bringing areas of hill fog across the higher ground. Patchy rain and drizzle will persist beneath the thickest layer of cloud, however a few brighter breaks may develop in the west at times. Maximum temperature 8 °C.

Tonight:

Remaining cloudy this evening, however a band of showery rain spreads southeast, with clearer spells to follow. Still rather chilly, particularly in rural spots, and becoming breezy along the coast. Minimum temperature 4 °C.

Saturday:

A brighter day bringing a mixture of sunshine and showers, these most frequent along the western coast. Becoming breezy in the afternoon, particularly in the west and across the hills. Maximum temperature 8 °C.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

Cloudy, with spells of rain spreading in from the west. Breezy on Sunday and Monday, particularly across high ground and along the coast, but easing into Tuesday. Turning mild.

Mild and many areas dry on Tuesday aside from rain over some western hills. Through the middle of next week, conditions are expected to turn widely unsettled with spells of heavy rain and strong winds possible for all regions. Temperatures falling back to around if not a little below average for a time later next week. Generally mixed conditions thereafter. High pressure will attempt to build across the south of the country at times but looks unlikely to become dominant as spells of wet and windy continue to arrive from the west. Temperatures likely varying around average with both some milder and colder interludes to be expected. Any snow most likely restricted to high ground though could temporarily fall at lower levels in the north during colder interludes.

Mainly unsettled conditions are most likely, with spells of wet and windy weather for all, these most frequent in the northwest. Some snow is possible in colder interludes, especially on high ground in the north. There are signs of at least some more settled interludes, these more likely across the south. Temperatures are likely to be around or slightly above average overall, any more settled interludes bringing the potential for overnight frost and fog.
