A mixture of cloud and sunny spells to end the day and soon turning chilly this evening under prolonged clear periods. Patchy mist and fog forming overnight and becoming cold in the countryside with frost possible in prone spots. Minimum temperature 3 °C.

Thursday:

Any patchy fog lifting through the morning, leaving another fine day with sunny spells. After a chilly start, feeling pleasantly warm in the afternoon sunshine with light winds. Maximum temperature 18 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Fine on Friday once any patchy fog clears. Cloudier and breezier on Saturday with some rain likely at times. Probably brighter on Sunday with sunny spells, though showers still possible.

Following a more unsettled weekend, a return to drier conditions is likely for many parts by the start of next week. A few showers or perhaps longer spells of rain remain possible for some places on Monday though, mainly in the north. Later in the week while showers or longer spells of rain are possible for all areas at times, the wettest weather is likely to be focused on the northwest of the country. Any spells of windier weather are more likely in the northwest too. Elsewhere, there is a better chance of more prolonged fine and dry weather along with morning mist and fog patches in places. Temperatures generally around average. Uncertainty then increases during early October but a similar pattern is likely to persist across the country.

On balance, slow-moving weather patterns are most favoured at first, possibly with high pressure centred near to the UK, and low pressure to the north. Depending on the position of the high pressure this may allow a slightly cooler and more changeable regime to develop, especially in the northwest. Towards mid-October a more unsettled pattern may become established as the high moves south and areas of low pressure over the North Atlantic move close to or over the UK, with an increased chance of windy conditions at times. Temperatures will probably recover to near-average.
