Today:

Cloudy, wet and windy in northern areas with rain and drizzle, heavy at times, particularly over Cumbria. Mainly dry and bright elsewhere with some sunshine. Winds gradually easing, and feeling warmer than on Thursday. Maximum temperature 20 °C.

Tonight:

Remaining cloudy, with outbreaks of rain and drizzle edging southwards, heavy at times. Breezy at times in coastal regions. Staying mild and rather humid. Minimum temperature 14 °C.

Saturday:

Cloudy with increasingly persistent and heavy rain, perhaps giving localised flooding and travel disruption later. Turning windier with a chance of coastal gales overnight. Feeling cooler. Maximum temperature 17 °C.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

Sunny spells with scattered showers on Sunday. Turning less windy but feeling cooler. Much drier on Monday and Tuesday, with plenty of sunny spells, though the odd shower still possible

It will be fairly settled to start the period but there will be spells or rain or showers in south and eastern areas, near to an area of low pressure. Elsewhere, some fog and frost patches are possible at times. It will also turn colder, as a northerly flow becomes established for a time. Later in the week, more widely drier and settled conditions could develop as high pressure becomes more influential, although probably still with some coastal showers. There may however be some thicker cloud and outbreaks of rain in the far northwest at times. Temperatures should gradually return closer to average in this period. Later there may be a return to a more changeable pattern but this is uncertain.

Confidence is very low in the weather regimes most likely to affect the UK during this period. On balance, there will likely be a transition from slow-moving weather patterns to a more changeable period at some stage although the timing on this is highly uncertain. High pressure probably close to the UK, which would offer some occasional periods of dry weather, will likely give way to a more unsettled period with some short lived dry interludes during this time. Temperatures will likely fluctuate either side of, but often close to, average.
