A chilly morning for many with some frost and patches of mist and fog in some spots. Any fog should clear through the morning to leave a bright and sunny day with some patchy cloud through the afternoon. Feeling fresh. Maximum temperature 13 °C.

Tonight:

Plenty of evening sunshine on offer leading to a fairly clear night initially. Turning cloudier from the southeast through the early hours, with a few showers possible by dawn. Minimum temperature 1 °C.

Monday:

Some early brightness in the north, but cloud thickening to bring showery rain to most areas during the morning. Rain petering out in the afternoon, with some brighter spells returning. Maximum temperature 15 °C.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

Unsettled through Tuesday and Wednesday with cloudy skies, patchy rain and brisk winds at times, especially around coasts. Brighter spells on Thursday, but with showers still likely. Perhaps windy later.

A changeable if not unsettled spell of weather will affect the UK through most if not all this period, with spells of wet and windy weather arriving from the Atlantic followed by drier though still showery interludes. It is possible that stormy weather may also develop at times. However, there is a chance that higher pressure may build near the UK again around the end of October, bringing a quieter spell of weather for a time. Temperatures are likely to be near or a little above normal overall, with mild spells likely at times, especially towards the south. In between frontal systems, and if pressure does build at the end of the period, colder nights are possible, with a touch of frost.

This period is highly uncertain, more so than normal, but overall it seems more likely than not that the UK weather will be dominated by westerly or southwesterly winds from the Atlantic during this period, with areas of potentially deep low pressure often affecting the UK at times. This will result in spells of wet and windy weather followed by drier but still showery interludes. Stormy conditions are also possible at times. High pressure may attempt to build across the country at times, this perhaps more likely early in the period, but any settled spells are likely to be short-lived. Temperatures are likely to be near or a little above average overall.
