A dry and bright start.

Today:

A dry start to the day, with some bright or sunny spells. Cloud tending to increase as the day progresses, with patchy rain possible in Cumbria the end of the day. Maximum temperature 13 °C.

Tonight:

Turning wet and windy overnight as rain pushes in from the north. Not feeling quite as chilly tonight and staying frost-free. Minimum temperature 6 °C.

Tuesday:

An unsettled day ahead. Often windy, particularly around coasts and hills, with spells of rain, this turning heavy at times. Maximum temperature 13 °C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Brighter but colder on Wednesday with blustery showers, these wintry over the hills. Drier and brighter on Thursday but staying chilly. Then a return of some wet weather on Friday.

A broadly changeable pattern will continue, at least through the first part of this period, as further frontal systems move across the UK, bringing rain and stronger winds at times. Weather fronts are likely to be more active across northern areas, thus the wettest and windiest conditions are more likely here. As they come south, often running in to a ridge of higher pressure extending from the southwest, frontal systems will often be weaker and rainfall amounts smaller. In this setup, temperatures will probably pan out close to average overall, with some overnight frost where skies are clear and winds light.

High pressure may be more dominant at the start of this period, the centre of which transferring from somewhere west or southwest of the UK to somewhere north of the UK. As such, plenty of dry weather seems most likely, but with changes in wind direction leading to some quite marked differences in cloud amounts and temperature from day to day. Moving further into April, there is a chance that high pressure will become less dominant and thus there is a greater chance of more places seeing some rain and possible stronger winds from time to time. Overall, temperatures panning out somewhere near to average.
