Cloudy with persistent outbreaks of rain across the northern Pennines, the rain heavy at times, especially on west-facing high ground. Drier in the more sheltered east, with the chance of occasional warm bright spells. Breezy. Maximum temperature 22 °C.

Tonight:

Rain continuing across the Pennines and will also gradually extend into eastern areas overnight, becoming heavy at times. Winds tending to ease overnight. Minimum temperature 12 °C.

Saturday:

A generally wet day with persistent outbreaks of rain, heavy at times. Light winds at first but a strengthening northerly breeze later, and feeling cooler. Maximum temperature 17 °C.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

Sunday, early rain clearing to showers and a strong, cool northerly wind. Monday and Tuesday, mostly dry with bright spells and lighter winds. Rather cool, with overnight ground frost possible.

High pressure will dominate across many parts of the UK at first, leading to widely settled conditions and some patchy frost and fog at night. The main exception initially will be in East Anglia and southeast England, where showers will be possible, accompanied by a brisk breeze at times. These may ease later in the week, as low pressure over the North Atlantic attempts to push some cloud and patchy rain towards western and northwestern parts of the UK. Temperatures should gradually return closer to average. By early October, confidence in the overall weather patterns affecting the UK is very low, and whilst it may turn more changeable the wettest conditions are most likely towards the west and northwest.

Confidence is very low in the weather regimes most likely to affect the UK during this period. On balance, there will likely be a transition from slow-moving weather patterns to a more changeable period at some stage although the timing on this is highly uncertain. High pressure probably close to the UK, which would offer some occasional periods of dry weather, will likely give way to a more unsettled period with some short lived dry interludes during this time. Temperatures will likely fluctuate either side of, but often close to, average.
