Friday:

A dry and bright start to Friday with variable cloud and sunny spells. Cloud builds through the morning, leading to a few isolated showers, locally perhaps heavy by the evening. Maximum temperature 19 °C.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

Though remaining a little cooler and fresher, there will be some warm spells of sunshine at times, but an isolated shower possible on Saturday. Possibly turning wetter on Monday.

A generally rather changeable period looks likely, with many places likely to see some much needed rain or showers at times but also some more sunshine. Initially, some heavy rain looks likely across the northeast, with some showers elsewhere. After a drier, brighter few days, further unsettled conditions may develop for a while, these perhaps more likely towards more southern parts of the UK. Thereafter, further spells of dry, warm, sunny weather and cooler, wetter and breezier weather look likely as we head towards mid-August. Temperatures will likely be a little above average overall, and there is the potential for some very warm or hot spells, especially in the south, although perhaps not the heat we have seen in recent weeks.

Dry and settled conditions look likely to dominate much of this period with high pressure patterns tending to affect the UK. This may be interrupted at times by Atlantic frontal systems, especially in the north, or thunderstorms in the south. However, overall, rainfall amounts will likely be below normal. Temperatures will probably be above normal and some spells of hot weather and heatwaves are possible, especially in the south.
