Rather cloudy and mainly dry this evening, though one or two showers may break out later overnight. Some may become heavy around dawn, especially over higher ground. Minimum temperature 11 °C.

Wednesday:

Early showers soon giving way to a broad area of heavy rain, briefly accompanied by strong winds. Turning drier and brighter later, though remaining breezy with a few coastal showers. Maximum temperature 17 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Fine and sunny on Thursday after a chilly start. Cloud increasing on Friday with patchy rain arriving later. Chilly with early fog on Saturday, then brighter with sunny spells.

Changeable as Atlantic frontal systems bring spells of rain, showers and occasional strong winds. The wettest and windiest conditions are most likely across Scotland and Northern Ireland, but wet and windy weather may extend more widely across England and Wales at times. Between systems, periods of drier and more settled weather are likely, especially in the south and east. More widely dry and more settled conditions could develop through the first week of October. Temperatures are expected to be slightly above normal overall.

The changeable and unsettled weather is likely to continue, with wet and windy weather even perhaps become more frequent. As is often the case for October, deeper areas of low pressure may also bring periods of very strong winds, especially across north and west. There is no reliable signal for any long-lasting settled weather, but fair days are likely between weather systems, especially in the south and east. Temperatures are expected to remain generally above average overall, although cooler interludes are possible.
