A fine end to the day with some sunshine, followed by clear spells. Cloud then spreads east and thickens through the early hours of Sunday, with outbreaks of rain, heavy at times, possible by dawn. Also turning rather breezy. Minimum temperature 12 °C.

Sunday:

Overnight rain continuing through the morning, heavy and blustery at times, before clearing early afternoon. Some warm sunny spells following later in the day. Staying rather breezy. Maximum temperature 23 °C.

Outlook for Monday to Wednesday:

Windy Monday due to Storm Floris, with rain, occasionally heavy, clearing to brighter spells. Rather windy Tuesday with sunny spells and scattered showers. Drier and sunnier Wednesday with winds easing.

A frontal system will likely lead to spells of rain and showers, especially to the north and west, which may be locally heavy. The rain will spread east across the UK but there may however be some drier and sunny spells in the east at first. A changeable westerly pattern will then continue for a time with spells of rain or showers but there will likely be some drier, brighter interludes, especially in the south and east. Temperatures will mainly be near average. As we move towards the middle of the month, there is an increased chance of high pressure becoming more dominant, leading to drier, more settled conditions becoming more widespread and above average temperatures. However, some brief unsettled spells remain possible.

High pressure, and therefore fairly settled conditions overall, appears most likely for the second half of August. The northwest may see more in the way of occasional rain or showers than other areas. Elsewhere, predominantly dry weather is likely to dominate, although periods of showers and thunderstorms may break out. Above average temperatures overall seem most likely, with the potential for hot spells to develop, especially in the east and south.
