Starting fine, but cloud and spells of rain spreading in from the northwest, becoming heavier and more persistent around lunchtime. Eventually becoming brighter with some late sunshine, but with some heavy and blustery showers following, perhaps wintry over hills. Maximum temperature 12 °C.

Tonight:

Remaining windy during the evening and overnight, although showers becoming lighter, fewer and further between, eventually mainly affecting the west. Drier with a touch of rural frost in eastern parts. Minimum temperature 0 °C.

Monday:

Perhaps on the cloudy and breezy side with showers, although these lighter than on Sunday. Still some sunny spells possible, mainly later as winds and showers ease. Temperatures near normal. Maximum temperature 12 °C.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

On the cloudy side Tuesday and Wednesday, with drier and brighter conditions developing on Thursday in the wake of midweek rain. Winds easing. Temperatures near normal, colder to start Thursday.

A broad northwest to southeast split is expected across the UK during this period. The northwest is likely to be more unsettled with low pressure systems moving in at times, bringing showers or longer spells of rain. Strong winds are also possible, particularly along coasts. In the southeast, high pressure will have greater influence, with more settled, drier weather as a result. Temperatures overall are likely to be near to or slightly above normal.

High pressure may be dominant early in this period, which would bring plenty of dry and settled weather across the UK, especially in the south. Any low pressure systems bringing wetter, windier weather are most likely to affect the north. Into late April, low pressure patterns may become more prevalent, with more unsettled, changeable conditions developing more widely. Temperatures are likely to be close to or slightly above normal.
