Early cloud will break to sunny spells, and with light and variable winds it will be feeling warm. However cloud will thicken again from the northwest through the afternoon, and the odd spot of rain cannot be ruled out. Maximum temperature 22 °C.

Tonight:

Cloud breaking at times overnight, with clear spells allowing the odd patch of mist and fog to develop. Perhaps staying cloudier across the Pennines, with the odd spot of rain. Minimum temperature 5 °C.

Thursday:

Thickening cloud through the morning, with a band of mostly light rain spreading east. This clearing by mid-afternoon to colder and breezier but also brighter conditions, with occasional blustery showers. Maximum temperature 16 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Cold start Friday, with some frost, then sunny intervals. Rain and stronger winds overnight, with further outbreaks of rain Saturday. Sunshine and showers Sunday. Temperatures near normal for April.

It will likely remain rather changeable during the first part of this period with showers or occasional longer spells of rain affecting many areas. Whether this takes the form of successive weather systems pushing in from the Atlantic or a more slowly evolving weather pattern remains rather unclear. There may also be some drier and brighter interludes and when winds are light, it should feel quite warm, despite temperatures most likely being close to normal for most. Later in the month more blocked weather patterns become more likely, with high pressure in the vicinity of the UK. This increases the probability of more settled weather, especially in the north but there may still be periods of rain or showers, especially in the south.

Blocked patterns with high pressure near to the UK will probably be dominant during this period with a good deal of dry weather across the UK as whole. Some unsettled interludes could develop at times, especially in the south, where rainfall amounts could be above average. Temperatures will probably be near to or slightly above normal, although some cold nights are still possible.
