Partly cloudy with bright or sunny spells by day. Any overnight fog may be slow to clear. Winds continuing to ease, falling light later. Colder overnight with frost patches developing. Maximum temperature 8 °C.

Dry, bright and more settled conditions with variable cloud and winds falling light. Overnight fog and frost likely becoming more prevalent as winds ease, perhaps persisting in places by day.

Cloud amounts will vary from place to place, but some clear or sunny spells are likely, and many places will be dry at first. Overnight frosts and fog patches are probable for some regions, the fog slow to clear by day. Over the weekend, a change to more unsettled conditions appears likely, with a chance of stronger winds and some rain moving southeast. This sets the scene for a more changeable second week with an increased likelihood of wet and windy spells, these especially towards the north while southern areas have a better chance of more prolonged drier, settled weather. Temperatures will vary around average with both some colder and milder spells.

Mainly unsettled conditions appear likely for most, with spells of wind and rain followed by showers affecting most areas but especially the north and northwest of the UK. Some sleet and snow is also likely at times, especially on high ground in the north. However, there are also some signs that more settled conditions are possible at times, these perhaps most likely across the south late in December or into early January. Temperatures are likely to be around average overall, with any more settled interludes bringing a risk of frost and fog.
