Today:

A cold start with a widespread frost. Cloud thickening towards dawn, bringing outbreaks of rain into the morning. Rain persisting on and off through the day, turning to sleet or snow for some upland areas. Feeling cold. Maximum temperature 5 °C.

Tonight:

Rain and hill snow persisting through the evening, slowly clearing overnight for many areas but frequent wintry showers continuing towards the east coast. Feeling very cold with strong northerly winds. Minimum temperature -1 °C.

Wednesday:

Cold and windy with frequent wintry showers down the east coast. Brighter elsewhere but still feeling very cold with strong northerly winds. Maximum temperature 3 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Staying cold and windy Thursday with continued wintry showers in the east. Very cold overnight into Friday but drier. Rain overnight into Saturday bringing more unsettled but generally milder conditions.

Atlantic weather fronts will continue to spread east bringing spells of rain or showers, potentially quite widely. Over subsequent days showery conditions will likely continue but there will be some brighter spells at times. There is also a chance of Atlantic frontal systems moving in from the west at times and temporary periods of northerly flow that may lead to some wintry showers. Temperatures will be a little below normal. A westerly dominated pattern will likely persist through to the end of November with outbreaks of rain or showers and temperatures near to or a little below normal. There could however still be some wintry showers at times in the north. Areas of low pressure may bring longer spells of rain and periods of strong winds at times.

Whilst there is a lot of uncertainty as to the flavour of weather affecting the UK into December, there is a greater chance than normal of slower evolving weather patterns. A mixture of weather types seems most likely and so some wetter days, with widespread rain or showers and the chance of snow, mainly for higher ground in the north. Equally some drier periods are also anticipated, increasing the possibility of some frosty nights and fog. Overall, temperatures close to average are most likely, but some colder spells are also possible, especially if any prolonged settled spells develop.
