This Evening and Tonight:

Becoming mostly dry through the evening, though some rain persists across the Pennines and winds remain fresh here. Winds lighter elsewhere and staying largely mild overnight with plenty of cloud. Minimum temperature 11 °C.

Thursday:

Mostly dry through the day with occasional brighter spells, although some light rain remains possible. A band of locally heavy rain moving in overnight, with strong, gusty winds. Maximum temperature 18 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Generally dry to start Friday but heavy rain and strong winds expected overnight into Saturday. Strong gusty winds and frequent showers persisting into the weekend, tending to reduce through Sunday.

To start the period the UK will be in a broadly westerly pattern allowing weak frontal systems to spread in from the Atlantic. Within this we are likely to see further spells of rain or drizzle and strong winds at times, these more likely affecting northern and western areas, but all parts of the UK could see some rain from time to time. Through next week, there is a signal, albeit a weak one, for pressure to build in the vicinity of the UK, with a better chance of more areas seeing some longer drier interludes. On the whole temperatures look to be fairly close to average, though some chilly nights are to be expected at times.

The latter half of October will probably see a transition to more widely unsettled conditions once more. Whether this takes the form of successive depressions moving in from the Atlantic or a rather slower evolving weather pattern remains to be seen, but there is a greater chance of more places seeing more frequent spells of rain or showers and possibly strong winds. Temperatures probably remaining close to average overall, but with a reduced incidence of chilly nights compared to earlier in the month.
