Early snow soon clears eastwards, then brighter conditions follow before a narrow band of heavy rain, snow over highest peaks, moves quickly east through the afternoon. Rather cold and windy. Maximum temperature 6 °C.

Tonight:

Mostly cloudy with isolated heavy showers, possibly becoming more persistent for a time over the Pennines, mostly dry by the end of the night. Minimum temperature 2 °C.

Monday:

Bright or sunny spells and scattered showers, these sometimes heavy and falling as snow on hills. Winds easing through the day but a strong coastal breeze developing overnight. Maximum temperature 7 °C.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

Tuesday risk of wintry, coastal showers with bright or sunny spells. Wednesday probably dry but cloudier. Similar Thursday but brighter later.

Showers or longer spells of rain, as well as occasional strong winds, are most likely at first as Atlantic low pressure systems dominate in the vicinity of the UK. Some heavy rain is likely in places, with some snow probable at times, mainly on high ground in the north. Temperatures varying from around, or a little above, average especially in the south to cold at times, mainly in the north. Although unsettled weather is likely to dominate at first, there will be some drier interludes between weather systems. These drier interludes will become increasingly likely and perhaps more prolonged through the period.
