Quite cloudy this morning with some rain. Variable amounts of cloud and sunny spells in the afternoon along with scattered slow moving showers, occasionally heavy and thundery. Maximum temperature 19 °C.

Tonight:

Scattered heavy showers will gradually die out this evening, leaving the rest of the night largely dry with a few clear spells developing. Light winds. Minimum temperature 12 °C.

Wednesday:

A mainly dry, bright morning. Turning overcast through the afternoon as a band of occasionally heavy rain spreads in from the west. Freshening afternoon winds, occasionally strong in the west. Maximum temperature 19 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Mainly dry, bright and breezy during this period. Some sunny spells, perhaps a few showers at times.

High pressure will dominate across England and Wales over the weekend and into next week. This will bring dry and warm conditions with plenty of sunshine for most. Scotland and Northern Ireland will probably see more cloud, with periods of rain at times, mainly affecting western Scotland. Through next week the high pressure may extend northwards at times to bring periods of drier and warmer weather to Scotland and Northern Ireland. Winds will be light to moderate for most, though stronger around northern hills and coasts near low pressure systems. Temperatures will rise through the early part of the period, becoming very warm or hot in parts of the south and east.

From mid July, high pressure is more likely than low pressure, bringing a greater chance of settled and drier conditions. Occasionally this dry and warm weather could be interrupted by outbreaks of rain with stronger winds, this most likely further north if this occurs. As is typical for the time of year, there remains a risk of heavy, thundery showers during any warm spells. Towards the end of July there is a slight preference for a continuation of high pressure to dominate, however confidence at this range is low. In any case, temperatures are likely to be above average overall, with a greater than normal chance of hot conditions developing at times.
