Today:

Dry with some lengthy sunshine to start but soon clouding over for the Western Isles and west coast. Cloud spreading southeast to all through the afternoon with patchy light rain. Warm in the east in any sunshine. Maximum temperature 20 °C.

Tonight:

It will stay cloudy through the evening and overnight. Some light rain or drizzle affecting much of the region but staying dry towards Inverness and Nairn. Minimum temperature 11 °C.

Monday:

A cloudy start for all with patchy rain or drizzle in the west. Eastern parts brightening up through the afternoon with some warm sunshine. Maximum temperature 20 °C.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

Staying largely cloudy with spells of light rain in the west. Staying largely dry with a few bright spells towards Inverness and Nairn. Freshening westerly winds on Thursday

For much of the UK, dry at first with sunny spells. Northern and northwestern areas will be cloudier with occasional patchy rain or drizzle. Towards the weekend and perhaps into the start of next week, perhaps a more unsettled period with rain at times, especially across northern parts of the UK. This rain may very well reach southern areas too, but could be light and patchy here. Confidence becomes lower as we head into next week, but there are signs that high pressure will return, which means dry conditions would resume, especially in the south. Winds will be mostly light or moderate, occasionally fresh around northern coasts. Temperatures are expected to be near or above normal, warmest in the south, perhaps becoming very warm again by the start of August.

Higher pressure is generally more likely than lower pressure through August. This means settled and dry weather will likely prevail, especially across the south. There still could be rain at times across northern parts, but should become less frequent where dry and warm conditions extend northwards. Although most areas may see dry weather for the much of the period, occasional summertime thunderstorms are possible on some days given the right ingredients. Winds are expected to be generally light or moderate, and occasionally fresh around coastal areas. Temperatures will very likely remain above normal, with potential for further hot spells, particularly in the south.
