Headline:

Outbreaks of rain. Some drier and brighter spells developing.

Today:

Outbreaks of rain, heavy and persistent at first, but turning lighter through the morning with brighter spells in the afternoon, the best of these developing around Inverness and the Black Isle. Rain or showers returning to the Northwest Highlands. Maximum temperature 21 °C.

Tonight:

Occasional rain or showers, but becoming drier and clearer across Eilean Siar and north Highland. Breezy with the southwest winds strong at times across the northwest. Minimum temperature 10 °C.

Wednesday:

Rain possible at first through Lochaber and Speyside, but mainly bright with occasional sunny spells and a scattering of showers. Maximum temperature 19 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Bright spells and showers, some of the showers heavy. A more organised band of heavy and perhaps thundery rain could cross from the west on Thursday.

Mostly dry away from the north and northwest initially, where scattered showers are expected. There is a chance that some other western parts could see some rain by the end of the weekend. Temperatures ranging from around average in the NW to warm in the southeast, perhaps becoming very warm in the southeast through the weekend. It will probably become more changeable thereafter, with potential for an area of low pressure to move close to or across the UK early in August. This could bring spells of heavy rain and perhaps some strong winds for some areas. It may become more settled again towards the end of the first week of August.

Dry and settled conditions will probably dominate much of this period with high pressure patterns tending to affect the UK. This may be interrupted at times by Atlantic frontal systems, especially in the north, or thunderstorms in the south. However, overall rainfall amounts will likely be below normal. Temperatures will probably be above normal and some spells of hot weather and heatwaves are possible, especially in the south.
