Headline:

Cloudy with outbreaks of rain on Wednesday.

This Evening and Tonight:

Cloud soon thickening to bring more persistent periods of rain, turning heavy in the west, particularly across Argyll and down the western coastal districts. Southerly winds strong across the coasts. Minimum temperature 12 °C.

Wednesday:

Cloudy and mild with spells of rain, heavy and persistent in the west, particularly through to mid-morning. Best of the shelter expected in Central Belt to east of Glasgow. Maximum temperature 17 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Very wet and windy with worst of the conditions across Argyll. Best of the limited shelter expected in Lanarkshire.

A deep low will probably be clearing to the east or northeast of the UK at the start of this period, leaving the UK in a broadly westerly pattern for the following few days. Within this we are likely to see further spells of rain and strong winds at times, these more likely affecting northern and northwestern areas, but all parts of the UK could see some rain from time to time. Towards mid-month, there is a signal, albeit a weak one, for pressure to build in the vicinity of the UK, with a better chance of more areas seeing some longer drier interludes. On the whole temperatures look to be fairly close to average, though some chilly nights are to be expected at times.

The latter half of October will probably see a transition to more widely unsettled conditions once more. Whether this takes the form of successive depressions steaming in from the Atlantic or a rather slower evolving weather pattern remains to be seen, but there is a greater chance of more places seeing more frequent spells of rain and possibly strong winds. Temperatures probably remaining close to average overall, but with a reduced incidence of chilly nights compared to earlier in the month.
