Mostly cloudy across the Western Isles and Caithness and Sutherland with a few spots of light rain. Elsewhere, a cloudy start but cloud breaking up to leave a dry day with long sunny spells. Warm in the sunshine. Maximum temperature 21 °C.

Tonight:

Mostly cloudy in the north and west overnight with isolated light rain. Drier in south and east, where patchy cloud and late evening sunshine give way to clear spells overnight. Minimum temperature 11 °C.

Tuesday:

The north and west remaining cloudy with a little light rain possible. The south and east staying dry with more breaks in the cloud allowing more sunshine and warmer temperatures. Maximum temperature 20 °C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Mostly cloudy few days with outbreaks of light rain and drizzle, especially in the north and west. Drier with bright and sunny intervals in south and east. Winds fresher Thursday.

Dry on Friday for most with sunny spells. Northern and northwestern areas will be cloudier with occasional patchy rain or drizzle. Into the weekend and perhaps the start of next week, more unsettled weather with rain at times, especially across northern parts of the UK. This rain may very well reach southern areas too, but could become more light and patchy here. Confidence becomes lower as we approach the turn of the month, but there are signs that high pressure will return, which means dry conditions would resume, especially in the south. Winds will be mostly light or moderate, occasionally fresh around northern coasts. Temperatures are expected to be near or above normal, warmest in the south, perhaps becoming very warm again by the start of August.

Higher pressure is considered generally more likely than lower pressure through August. This means settled and dry weather will likely prevail, especially across the south. There still could be rain at times across northern parts, but should become less frequent where dry and warm conditions extend northwards. Although most areas may see dry weather for the much of the period, occasional summertime thunderstorms are possible on some days given the right ingredients. Winds are expected to be generally light or moderate, and occasionally fresh around coastal areas. Temperatures will very likely remain above normal, with potential for further hot spells, particularly in the south.
