It will be a cloudy start on Friday with outbreaks of patchy rain and drizzle, mainly in the north and west, before brighter spells develop later. Maximum temperature 19 °C.

Rather cloudy at first but clearer spells in the north will spread south to many areas through the evening and overnight. Staying cloudy towards Inverness and Nairn. Minimum temperature 10 °C.

Saturday:

A cloudy start towards Inverness and Nairn but this should gradually lift and break through the morning. Otherwise dry and warm with bright or sunny spells. Maximum temperature 20 °C.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

Staying dry and bright from Sunday to Tuesday though cloud feeding in from the Moray Firth at times. Warm or very warm in any sunshine.

This brings an increasing possibility of stronger winds and rain, some of which could be heavy and thundery, especially for southern and western areas, but this perhaps becoming more widespread with time. Overall, temperatures look to remain above average, with the potential for some further hot spells, especially in the south. One of the determining factors of the forecast through this period will be the behaviour of what is currently Tropical Storm Erin as it progresses into the North Atlantic; this being a quite typical source of uncertainty in late summer.
