Today:

A rather cloudy start but sunny spells soon developing. Most places will be dry but a few showers are likely especially across Moray and western and northern Aberdeenshire. Occasionally fresh westerly winds easing. A little cooler than recent days. Maximum temperature 15 °C.

Tonight:

A few showers continue across the north and west but for most a dry night with long clear spells. With mainly light winds a touch of frost is possible. Minimum temperature 2 °C.

Wednesday:

A dry, largely sunny start for most but increasing cloud and winds turning more northwesterly and freshening, bring afternoon showers, these turning wintry over the mountains. Maximum temperature 14 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Mainly dry, bright start Thursday before increasing cloud brings occasionally evening heavy rain. Overnight rain soon clears leaving Friday and Saturday with sunny spells and increasingly frequent heavy, blustery showers.

It will likely be quite changeable through the middle of October, as a series of low pressure systems run across the North Atlantic, often to the north and northwest of the UK, bringing occasional bands of rain and strong winds, but interspersed with brighter and more showery conditions. Rain will be most prevalent across hills in the west and especially northwest, where above average rainfall is likely through this period. Longer drier interludes are more favoured in sheltered southern and eastern parts, but even here it is likely to be wetter than during recent weeks. Whilst brief cooler interludes are possible, temperatures are likely to be a little above average in many areas for the period as a whole.

The remainder of October and into early November will probably maintain a changeable pattern overall, with areas of low pressure often passing close to the UK from the North Atlantic, interspersed by occasional but short-lived ridges of high pressure. This regime will bring showers or longer spells of rain at times, with the wettest and windiest weather typically in the west and northwest, driest conditions more favoured in sheltered southern and eastern parts. Whilst some occasional colder interludes will be possible at times, temperatures are likely to be near or a little above average for the period as a whole.
