Headline:

Mostly dry and bright, rain in the west this evening.

Today:

A mostly dry day with sunny spells and light winds. Cloud will increase across the west coast in the afternoon, bringing some patchy rain to the Hebrides from late afternoon. Maximum temperature 20 °C.

Tonight:

A dry evening with some late sunshine then clear skies in the east, but cloudy in the west with rain turning heavy. Rain soon spreads east overnight, occasionally heavy. Minimum temperature 12 °C.

Sunday:

A rather cloudy start with some patchy rain. This soon breaking down to scattered showers with some sunny spells developing. Turning largely dry by the end of the day. Maximum temperature 19 °C.

Outlook for Monday to Wednesday:

Very strong winds and heavy rain from storm Floris on Monday. Rain clearing east overnight. Winds slowly easing through Tuesday with showers in the west. Dry with lighter winds Wednesday.

A frontal system will likely lead to spells of rain and showers, especially to the north and west, which may be locally heavy. The rain will spread east across the UK but there may however be some drier and sunny spells in the east at first. A changeable westerly pattern will then continue for a time with spells of rain or showers but there will likely be some drier, brighter interludes, especially in the south and east. Temperatures will mainly be near average. As we move towards the middle of the month, there is an increased chance of high pressure becoming more dominant, leading to drier, more settled conditions becoming more widespread and above average temperatures. However, some brief unsettled spells remain possible.

High pressure, and therefore fairly settled conditions overall, appears most likely for the second half of August. The northwest may see more in the way of occasional rain or showers than other areas. Elsewhere, predominantly dry weather is likely to continue, although periods of showers and thunderstorms cannot be ruled out. Above average temperatures overall seem most likely, with the potential for hot spells to develop, especially in the east and south, these more probable further into August.
