A cold, clear start with frost in places. Dry and settled through the day for most with patchy cloud developing. The odd light shower possible around northern and western coasts. Maximum temperature 12 °C.

Tonight:

Dry and settled overnight with light winds and lengthy clear spells. Turning cold again, with a frost developing across many inland areas by morning. Turning breezy for the Outer Hebrides. Minimum temperature 0 °C.

Sunday:

Another cold start with an inland frost. Largely sunny through the day, but turning cloudier and windier across the Western Isles during the afternoon. Maximum temperature 12 °C.

Outlook for Monday to Wednesday:

Cold and bright on Monday with a good deal of sunshine. Turning unsettled on Tuesday and Wednesday with cloud and rain at times.

It is looking increasingly likely that a changeable if not unsettled spell of weather will affect the UK through this period, with spells of wet and windy weather arriving from the Atlantic followed by drier though still showery interludes. While there is still a chance that high pressure will build near the UK again during late October, it is more likely that the changeable or unsettled regime will continue once established. It is possible that stormy weather may also develop at times. Temperatures are likely to be near or a little above normal overall, with mild spells likely at times, especially towards the south. In between frontal systems, colder nights are possible, with a touch of frost.

This period is highly uncertain, more so than normal, but overall it seems more likely than not that weather patterns will be dominated by westerly or southwesterly winds from the Atlantic during this period. This will result in occasional spells of wet and windy weather followed by drier but still showery interludes. High pressure may attempt to build across the country at times but any settled spells are most likely to be short-lived. Temperatures are likely to be near or above average overall.
