Tonight:

Mainly cloudy with showers merging into some longer spells of rain, heaviest over the Northwest Highlands. Strong to gale force southwesterly winds. Minimum temperature 10 °C.

Tuesday:

Cloudy morning with showers or longer spells of rain and strong to gale force westerly winds. Wind and showers will ease during the afternoon with some bright or sunny intervals. Maximum temperature 16 °C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Bright on Wednesday with some sunny spells developing. Rain spreading from the west on Thursday. Then brighter again on Friday with some sunshine.

Changeable initially, with some dry interludes and relatively cool nights, interspersed with occasional spells of rain and showers arriving from the west, perhaps accompanied by some strong winds at times too. A trend toward some longer dry interludes between systems as we head toward mid-September, but at this stage a return of prolonged dry, settled weather looks unlikely. Temperatures will probably be close to average overall, though still with some relatively cool nights at times.

High pressure initially close to the UK, with a continuation of more settled conditions at times, may eventually start to weaken its influence on the weather towards the end of September. As a result, it may become more changeable with a greater chance of rain or showers in places, and perhaps some strong winds at times too. Temperatures will likely be a little above average overall, with relatively cool nights possible at first tending to reduce in frequency later in the period.
