Rain, sleet and hill snow gradually clearing to the south through the night, with a few wintry showers lingering. Remaining cloudy throughout. Breezy around the coast. Minimum temperature 1 °C.

Thursday:

Scattered wintry showers spread southwards over the area, perhaps heavy at times and falling as snow to some lower levels. Dry spells and brighter intervals between showers. Winds easing. Maximum temperature 4 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

A few wintry showers and sunny spells on Friday. Dry on Saturday with sunshine in the morning before turning cloudier later. Cloudy with rain and hill snow spreading east Sunday.

Showers or longer spells of rain are expected as Atlantic low pressure systems dominate in the vicinity of the UK. Some heavy rain is likely in places, probably focussed on western hills, with some snow at times in the north, mainly on high ground. Strong winds are possible at times, especially around coasts. Temperatures will probably be near normal. Later in the period, there is a chance that drier, more settled conditions may begin to develop.
