Thursday:

For Shetland, cloudy with a little drizzle in the morning before clearing to fresh, dry conditions and sunny spells in the afternoon. Cloudy for Orkney with patchy rain and drizzle. Maximum temperature 11 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Dry with variable cloud, sunny spells and light winds on Friday and Saturday. Turning cloudier and more unsettled on Sunday with winds strengthening and rain possible later.

These will bring showers or longer spells of rain, perhaps accompanied by some strong winds at times, but also interspersed with some drier and brighter interludes, albeit these generally of shorter duration than the recent settled spell. Later in the period, there may be a transition to a slightly cooler and more showery northwesterly regime, as high pressure builds over the Atlantic to the west, and low pressure becomes centred to the east of the UK. Temperatures are likely to be near or slightly above average overall, although may trend slightly below normal later

Into November, an unsettled pattern is anticipated, as low pressure systems over the Atlantic track across the UK. These may be shifted farther south than normal, bringing showers or longer spells of rain fairly widely, perhaps also accompanied by some strong winds at times. Temperatures will probably be close to or slightly above average overall.
