A few isolated light showers are possible first thing, but it will mostly be a dry day with some good sunny spells and light winds. Maximum temperature 17 °C.

Tonight:

A dry evening with some late sunshine. Clouding over after dark with outbreaks of rain spreading east overnight, these turning increasingly heavy later in the night. Minimum temperature 11 °C.

Sunday:

Occasionally heavy rain clearing Orkney soon after down, but continues across Shetland until mid to late morning. Dry and sunny in the afternoon. Maximum temperature 17 °C.

Outlook for Monday to Wednesday:

Very strong winds and heavy rain from storm Floris on Monday. Rain clearing east early Tuesday with winds slowly easing through the day. A few showers and lighter winds Wednesday.

Dry with sunny spells to begin the period as high pressure moves across the UK. The pattern will then likely return to something more broadly changeable. A frontal system will likely lead to spells of rain and showers especially to the north and west. The general westerly pattern will then likely continue for a time with spells of rain or showers and some drier, brighter interludes, especially in the south and east. Temperatures will mainly be near average. As we move towards the middle of the month, there is an increased chance of high pressure becoming more dominant, leading to drier, more settled conditions becoming more widespread and above average temperatures. However, some brief unsettled spells remain possible.

High pressure, and therefore fairly settled conditions overall, appears most likely for the second half of August. The northwest may see more in the way of occasional rain or showers than other areas. Elsewhere, predominantly dry weather is likely to continue, although periods of showers and thunderstorms cannot be ruled out. Above average temperatures overall seem most likely, with the potential for hot spells to develop, especially in the east and south, these more probable further into August.
