Today:

A dry and bright start across Shetland, but outbreaks of rain over Orkney extending north into Shetland this morning. Drier and brighter spells then developing in Orkney during the afternoon. Mainly moderate south or southeast winds. Maximum temperature 18 °C.

Tonight:

Soon turning drier and brighter across Shetland, although the odd shower still possible. Mainly dry with some clear spells developing overnight. Fresh southwest winds at times. Minimum temperature 11 °C.

Wednesday:

It will be bright with the best of the sunshine across Orkney. A scattering of showers and winds turning into the west, these strong at times in Shetland. Maximum temperature 16 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Bright with occasional sunny or clear spells. Showers, these most widespread and heavy on Friday and Saturday. Mainly moderate southwest winds.

Mostly dry away from the north and northwest initially, where scattered showers are expected. There is a small chance that some other western parts could see some rain by the end of the weekend. Temperatures ranging from around average in the NW to warm in the southeast, perhaps becoming very warm in the southeast through the weekend. It will probably become more changeable thereafter, with potential for an area of low pressure to move close to or across the UK early in August. This could bring spells of heavy rain and perhaps some strong winds for a time. It may become more settled again towards the end of the first week of August.

Dry and settled conditions will probably dominate much of this period with high pressure patterns tending to affect the UK. This may be interrupted at times by Atlantic frontal systems, especially in the north, or thunderstorms in the south. However, overall rainfall amounts will likely be below normal. Temperatures will probably be above normal and some spells of hot weather and heatwaves are possible, especially in the south.
