Afternoon cloud sinking southward leaving some evening sunshine for northern and western areas. A risk of showers, potentially heavy, over East Anglia initially, before cloud sinks further south leaving clear spells for all. Feeling fresher than of late. Minimum temperature 11 °C.

Friday:

A dry and bright start to Friday with plenty of sunny spells. Cloud will turn the sunshine hazy through the afternoon, before it disperses again later. Fresher than recent days. Maximum temperature 22 °C.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

Saturday and Sunday look dry with some warm spells of sunshine, hazy at times, with gentle winds. A chance of some much needed patchy rain across the region on Monday.

A generally rather changeable period looks likely, with many places likely to see some much needed rain or showers at times but also some more sunshine. Initially, some heavy rain looks likely across the northeast, with some showers elsewhere. After a drier, brighter few days, further unsettled conditions may develop for a while, these perhaps more likely towards more southern parts of the UK. Thereafter, further spells of dry, warm, sunny weather and cooler, wetter and breezier weather look likely as we head towards mid-August. Temperatures will likely be a little above average overall, and there is the potential for some very warm or hot spells, especially in the south, although perhaps not the heat we have seen in recent weeks.

Dry and settled conditions look likely to dominate much of this period with high pressure patterns tending to affect the UK. This may be interrupted at times by Atlantic frontal systems, especially in the north, or thunderstorms in the south. However, overall, rainfall amounts will likely be below normal. Temperatures will probably be above normal and some spells of hot weather and heatwaves are possible, especially in the south.
